Assessment Services provides diagnostic and entrance assessments to help individuals achieve their goals in college and/or career by providing feedback and recommendations on academic preparedness.

For testing to enter into a program with special selection requirements, you first register with Enrolment Services. You should receive a letter from Enrolment Services regarding your test date with Assessment Services. Plan to arrive for testing on the date provided. For the Nursing program, contact Assessment Services for an appointment.
For testing to enter into a program through special admission requirements (i.e. mature student status), you will be sent a letter from Enrolment Services asking you to make an appointment for testing at the Assessment Services. Please call 204-632-2458 to book your appointment. Have your student number available when making your appointment.
If you are trying to determine the level at which you will enter an upgrading program at Red River College, then you will take an Academic Readiness Assessment. This test is given on specific test dates. Testing begins promptly at 9:00 AM in Room D202 at the Notre Dame campus. The test is given on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each test session can accommodate 20 people. Therefore, you do not need to make an appointment, but you should arrive early on a scheduled test date (i.e., you should arrive before 9:00 AM). There is a $40 fee for testing.

It is important for you to arrive on your scheduled test date. Applicants who live within 100 kilometers of Winnipeg are expected to take their assessment at Red River College in the designated setting. A $40.00 non-refundable assessment fee must be paid prior to writing your entrance test(s) for RRC programs. Fees are payable in cash, cheque, money order, debit card, VISA or MasterCard. Please write cheques payable to "Red River College". Please complete an Assessment Fee Payment Form and submit it along with your payment.

The Controller’s Office will forward the validated receipt directly to Assessment Services on your behalf. This validated receipt and the Assessment Fee Payment Form must be received by the Assessment Services prior to writing your test.
If You Are Paying In Person:
Please bring the completed form and your payment to either the Notre Dame Campus Student Service Centre D101 or the Exchange District Campus Student Services Centre (P104) to be validated.
Bring your receipt to give to the examiner on the day of your test.
Testing occurs in Building D, Room 202 unless your letter indicated otherwise.
If You Are Driving:
Take entrance #3 off Notre Dame and report to the commissioner to learn where to park your car. As you drive in, look towards the left to locate Building D, which is a long, 3-story, white building. Take the side entrance and go to the second floor Room 202.
*Note that parking costs $1.50/hour and the ticket dispenser only accepts Loonies;
Please be prepared to pay accordingly. Parking is free on Saturday.
If You Are Taking The Bus:
The bus will bring you directly to the front of Red River College. When you exit the bus, go to Building D, which is a long, 3-story, white building towards the left. Take the side entrance and go to the second floor Room 202.
Testing occurs in room D202 unless your letter indicated otherwise. Arrive early for your testing in order to obtain seating. Give yourself time to find the building and the room.
If the College sent you a letter inviting you for the testing session, bring it with you. Make sure you have your student number. Also bring in your assessment fee sheet. You may bring a beverage, but please do not eat while taking the test to prevent distracting others. Children cannot be accommodated in the test room. Please make necessary baby-sitting arrangements. Dictionaries, study materials, or other study aids may not be used.

Test sessions vary depending on which assessment you take, although most take a half-day. Therefore, plan to spend a full morning or a full afternoon for testing.
Pass marks are established by the academic department for a particular program, and therefore vary according to the program. If you are taking multiple tests (i.e., math and reading), then it is important to score at the required level on each test. For some programs, the test results are only one factor considered among several factors (i.e., work experience, high school grades, etc.), and thus poor test results may not necessarily eliminate you from such programs.

For print materials, you may review “The Easy Way Series” (Mathematics, Arithmetic, Geometry, Algebra) by Barron’s Publishing.
The reading test looks at your ability to comprehend the meaning of written passages. If you are taking the Academic Readiness Assessment, then you will take a reading test called CAAT-C: Reading Comprehension. All RRC reading tests cover a variety of subject matter. The passages are not specific to any particular academic program. Improving your reading proficiency is an ongoing, long-term process. Therefore, preparing for a reading test can involve long-term reading of many types of materials at varying levels of difficulty (e.g., textbooks, professional journals, newspapers.)
To assess reading proficiency, you likely will take the Standard Degree of Reading Power (DRP): This is a multiple choice test which measures your ability to read and understand written passages. It contains several reading passages in which some words are missing. You will choose the word that makes the best sense in the blank from several words provided as possible responses. This test is not timed, but usually takes 1-2 hours. (passages example)
If you are required to take a science entrance examination for admission purposes, please call Assessment Services to determine which science test you will be taking. The four possible tests in science are biology, chemistry, general science, and physics.

The public library and bookstores are good sources for study materials. You might review high school and college preparatory textbooks, workbooks, study guides, and self-help/tutor books. You also might take practice tests, such as the ACT/SAT practice test books, in order to become familiar with how tests may be structured. The areas of mathematics and science will be most helpful to review if you are taking tests in these areas.
Within 2 weeks of your test date, you will receive a letter from Enrolment Services (or Adult Learning Centre or Aboriginal Programs) indicating whether you have been accepted as a student. Thus, the official decision whether or not you have been accepted will be communicated to you in writing. After you receive this letter, you have the option of contacting Assessment Services at 204-632-2458 if you are interested in details regarding your specific test results.
If you are taking tests to meet special admission requirements, then you will be informed of your test results immediately after you take your tests. However, the official decision about whether you have been accepted into your program will be communicated to you in writing from Enrolment Services within 2 weeks of your test date.
Receiving your Creative Communications Entrance Test results will take at least 8 weeks from the due date of the portfolio.
Assessments involve individualized testing and take up to a full day. Depending on a person’s schedule and needs, testing can occur across several days or may involve one full day. The assessment includes:
Students will have an opportunity to share knowledge and describe difficulties experienced. Background information about work experience, career goals, educational history, psychological concerns, medical concerns, and personal interests will be discussed.
