ACE Project Space

Virtual Reality

Virtual reality (VR) is about creating immersive sensory experiences in 3D space that place people in interactive worlds based on real or imagined environments. VR is primarily employed in gaming and educational contexts where users wear a head-mounted display and use hand-held controllers that simulate hand movements in the virtual environment. VR experiences have applications in a variety of industries ranging from healthcare and policing to architecture and construction. Simulations using VR can reduce the costs and risks of live training, development and logistics by bringing realistic conditions directly to users.

What We’re Doing

We’re providing opportunities for students to apply their newly developed programming and problem-solving skills with VR technology.

Clients with dedicated VR projects at the ACE Project Space are able to quickly and efficiently gather feedback from their application users in a controlled environment before deploying the software to the field.

Expertise

From creating VR escape rooms to wheelchair learning simulations paired with machine learning, our students have proven they can combine skills in programming, 3D modelling and interdepartmental collaboration to create entertaining and practical VR experiences.  We have collaboration with RRC Polytech’s Game Development program.

Faculty and Staff Expertise

Our faculty and staff are continually working to expand and share technical knowledge while learning about the latest VR developments in industry. We meet regularly with our colleagues in other programs to discuss and incorporate trends to advance our interdisciplinary capabilities associated with VR technology.

Technology

The ACE Project Space reserves space and VR equipment for students to develop code, integrate 3D graphics and test the results of their work in a safe physical environment.

Our faculty and support staff provide assistance to students, stakeholders and end users in setting up the equipment and software and ensuring the VR equipment is calibrated to each individual user’s physical characteristics.
