First Impressions – Hiring for Industry Event: Employer Information

Overview

Connect with students from RRC Polytech programs – whether it is for current opportunities, future employment, or Co-operative Education positions – through an afternoon of speed-interviews!

Participating in the First Impressions event provides employers the opportunity to conduct up to 17 10-minute interviews with students from RRC Polytech’s Business and Information Technology programs.

Details and Registration

Date: Wednesday, February 12, 2025
Time: 11am to 4pm
Location: RRC Polytech Notre Dame Campus – North Gym

Early bird registration: $150 per table, max two representatives per table (Deadline is October 20, 2024)
Regular registration: $185 per table, max two representatives per table
Deadline to register: November 18, 2024

Note: The registration fee is non-refundable. Each registration entitles you to one interview table that can host one to two employer representatives, and a maximum of 17 student interview slots.

We’re here to support you every step of the way! We will be using RRC Polytech’s portal, Career Bridge, to post your job and collect student applications for you.

Career Bridge also has an interview scheduler feature that allows employer representatives to schedule meeting times with students in advance. Simply indicate which students you wish to interview, and the students will be able to select an available interview slot from your schedule – all through Career Bridge. No more playing phone tag!

Once we receive your registration, you’ll receive an email confirmation, along with the next steps on how to participate.

Steps After Registration

  1. Create employer account
    If you have not done so, create an employer account on RRC Polytech’s career portal, Career Bridge.
  2. Send job postings
    Complete and return the provided job posting template to the First Impressions team by November 18. We will post your positions for you.
  3. Review applications
    On January 15, you will receive all the applicant resumes via email for your posted position.
  4. Select your candidates
    Select the candidates you wish to interview using Career Bridge’s interview scheduler by January 27. Students will receive an invitation and reserve an interview slot with you, all through Career Bridge.
  5. Attend the event
    On February 12, attend the event and let the students make a great first impression!

Applied Accounting

The Applied Accounting program focuses on the necessary skills for a career providing entry-level accounting support. While this program focuses on fundamental accounting skills, students build skills in mathematics, general business practices, professional communication and business software. Students acquire an understanding of various accounting principles by focusing on solving real-world problems and industry challenges.

Business Administration – General Studies (Administration)

The Business Administration – General Studies graduate will be able to:

  1. Demonstrates professionalism as a team member by making ethical decisions that will contribute to the team’s overall success
  2. Develops communication, time management, and organizational strategies that will be implemented to complete tasks, meet deadlines, and demonstrate teamwork skills
  3. Applies human resource principles to help support, guide, and train others within an organization
  4. Develops and reviews career plans, measure and assess strengths, and identify areas for growth
  5. Fosters and maintains excellence in relationships with internal and external stakeholders by managing conflict, building trust, valuing diversity, demonstrating adaptability, and nurturing respect

Business Administration – Accounting

The Business Administration – Accounting graduate will be able to:

  1. Advise on financial corporate structure using best practices, standards, and core internal controls
  2. Advise on organizational corporate structure to identify liability risk (general, WCB) and risk areas (ERM, maps)
  3. Apply knowledge of tax laws and regulations to process personal and corporate returns, develop tax minimization strategies, manage consolidations, and mitigate tax risks
  4. Utilize non-financial reporting skills to prepare, analyze, interpret and present non-financial reports
  5. Develop audit plan to advise on corporate assurance
  6. Perform transactional accounting to reconcile accounts, manage cash flow, and process transactions and investments
  7. Produce financial reports to prepare a financial forecast, provide recommendations and analyze financial statements
  8. Lead budget/planning process to integrate strategic plan, monitor progress, summarize significant assumptions, and facilitate corrective action
  9. Use communication skills for persuasion, negotiation, consensus building, and providing exceptional client service
  10. Use creative problem solving to provide relevant and innovative solutions for clients

Business Administration – Financial Services

The Business Administration – Financial Services graduate will be able to:

  1. Interview clients using appropriate questioning techniques to determine financial position, client experience and risk tolerance.
  2. Assist the client in prioritizing financial goals.
  3. Match benefits of products and services to the clients needs and make recommendations to provide client-specific solutions.
  4. Explain and comply with industry regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures.
  5. Explain and apply  tax laws and regulations
  6. Explain and apply relevant concepts of law and fiduciary principles as required.
  7. Manage the loan application process, analyzing client situation and managing risk as appropriate
  8. Manage and build client relationships through appropriate contact  and sales management
  9. Develop and execute a marketing/sales plan, determining key profit indicators
  10. Define, and differentiate between, key insurance terms
  11. Manage the insurance application process.
  12. Demonstrate a confident and culturally appropriate communication style.
  13. Demonstrate strong ethical grounding, as well as a commitment to life long learning.

Business Administration – Human Resource Management

The Business Administration – Human Resource Management graduate will be able to:

  1. Participate in HR planning and organizational strategy to achieve organizational objectives and priorities
  2. Implement a total compensation structure using job evaluation systems and market comparisons
  3. Promote a collaborative work environment through clear and open communication to achieve a respectful, productive, and engaged workforce
  4. Lead recruitment by sourcing, selecting, hiring, and on-boarding people to address organizational needs aligned with the strategic objectives
  5. Facilitate learning & development programs to build employee competency and ensure relevance and effectiveness
  6. Participate in labour relations to build productive relationships and balance the interests of all parties
  7. Synthesize information from a variety of sources using credible sources to incorporate appropriate technologies and ideas into the practice of human resources
  8. Promote the health and safety of employees through awareness and compliance of legislation, regulations, and standards

Business Administration – Logistics/Supply Chain Management

The Business Administration – Logistics/Supply Chain Management graduate will be able to:

  1. Manage the supply chain to ensure product quality and delivery
  2. Align supply chain planning with key performance objectives to improve overall operational efficiency of the flow of products, services, and information
  3. Plan operations for the transformation of goods or services to add value for a customer or to a product or service
  4. Manage supply chain risks and ensure that the required contingency plans and corrective actions are in place
  5. Optimize operations using analysis techniques to benchmark improvement opportunities
  6. Identify procurement needs to deliver high levels of value to the organization through the purchase of materials, services and expertise
  7. Manage vendor relationships and customer expectations
  8. Identify and select modal choices to ensure optimal results for the company and the customer.
  9. Coordinate movement of goods from source to consumption to ensure customer satisfaction within the limitation of the regulatory and company policies.
  10. Coordinate inventory control and warehouse distribution to improve efficiency and accelerate responses to changing customer demand.
  11. Monitor KPIs to track adherence to business rules and policies, and legal and regulatory legislation
  12. Utilize a network model for the quantification of costs, service, constraints and other performance metrics
  13. Identify operational improvements  that can be applied for the  optimization of the company’s supply chain

Commerce Industry Sales and Marketing

The Commerce Industry Sales and Marketing graduate:

  1. Contributes to the development and implementation of the marketing strategy through customer and industry interactions.
  2. Participates in strategic sales planning to continuously identify and support the organization’s positioning within the marketplace.
  3. Manages a territory by using the sales funnel to allocate time and resources to build and maintain long term customer relationships.
  4. Applies the consultative selling process to meet both the buyer and seller organization objectives.
  5. Develops and manages internal and external customer relationships through ongoing interactions that involve trust, empathy, collaboration, and support.
  6. Incorporates technology to acquire, organize, and communicate information for efficient and effective customer relationship management.
  7. Identifies, evaluates, and interprets internal business functions and external environmental factors to develop and implement appropriate marketing strategies.
  8. Employs professional business language and behaviours through appropriate communication channels to develop a complete understanding and meet the informational needs of all parties involved in the exchange.

Information Technology

Application Development and Delivery (formerly Business Information Technology)

Application Development and Delivery grads are well positioned to work across various industries, from entry-level positions to senior leadership roles. Our grads are known for their ability to adapt and innovate in the ever-evolving world of IT and enhance their technical abilities with business and communication skills.

An Application Development and Delivery graduate will be able to:

Web and Application Development

  • Proficiency in application development for business systems using Java and .NET using C#, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and optionally a full-stack development framework.
  • Opportunities exist for students to dive deeper into .NET, mobile application development, Python, exploring data structures, internet and/or network security fundamentals, and server-side technologies.

Database Management

  • Learner gain experience with database operations and design by first exploring relational databases with a focus on PL/SQL. 
  • Students also explore other databases such as MySQL and optionally: PostGres to support web applications, code-first databases within a .NET environment, and no-SQL database interactions via JSON and/or Firebase.

Network Management

  • All students learn develop the skills needed for setting up and configure network devices, covering content for Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) level 1. 
  • All students cover server administration topics within a Windows Server environment using Active Directory.
  • Electively, students may specialize further in Network Administration by gaining their CCNA levels 2 and 3, and optionally learning topics in security and disaster recovery, network security, and/or advanced Linux topics.

Business Skills

Students continuously work on their business skills via professional development courses each term and courses covering the following topics:  communication skills, interpersonal professional skills, accounting, business mathematics, project management basics, and understanding business systems.

Data Science and Machine Learning

The Data Science and Machine Learning (DSML) program is a 20-month, work-integrated learning, diploma program with a hands-on focus.

Recent advancements in computer hardware and machine learning algorithms have driven a rapid growth in the use of data science and machine learning across all economic sectors, with applications in robotics and automation, healthcare, finance, and government to name just a few. Because of this, there is now a huge demand for developers and data analysts with skills and experience in these fields.

Graduates of this program will be well prepared to immediately enter a career in this exciting, important and rapidly growing field. They will be able to:

  • Use technical and data communication skills
  • Understand fundamental concepts in mathematics and statistics
  • Apply the most current machine learning algorithms
  • Use software to gather, parse, analyze, summarize, and manage data
  • Develop software using industry standard languages and libraries

Full-Stack Web Development

After successfully completing the Full-Stack Web Development diploma program, graduates should be able to:

  1. Develop front end website architecture
  2. Design user interactions on web pages
  3. Develop back end website applications
  4. Create servers and databases for functionality
  5. Develop adaptive content for multiple devices (cell phone, tablets, etc.)Ensure cross-platform optimization for mobile phones
  6. Ensure responsiveness of applications
  7. Work alongside graphic designers for web design features
  8. Manage a project from conception to finished product
  9. Design and develop Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
  10. Meet both technical and consumer needs for a web development project
  11. Learn to research new methods of development in web applications and programming languages
  12. Prepare mock-ups and storyboards for a web development project
  13. Consult with clients to develop and document web site requirements
  14. Demonstrate communication skills, service management skills, and presentation skills
  15. Complete job preparation tasks including writing resumes and cover letters, conducting job interviews, and developing an ePortfolio 

Information Security

The Information Security (InfoSec) program is a two-year, work-integrated learning, post-graduation diploma program. Successful students receive the knowledge and skill set required to analyze, evaluate, manage, and respond to today’s most complex information security issues.

They will be able to:

  • Design and analyze robust personal, enterprise, and web-based IT security systems. 
  • Define and mitigate security risks
  • use information security technology, training, policies, standards and business requirements, procedures and processes.
  • Perform security program and project management
  • Identify which business assets require protection, risk mitigation strategies, business continuity, disaster recover and metrics to measure performance.
  • Familiar with various security technologies, web-based application protection, security architecture, analysis, design, development, testing and implementation of security technologies.

IT Operations

Information technology operations professionals are service-minded experts who put customer experience and the needs of the business first. 

Through the IT Operations program, students develop the communication, customer service and technical support skills needed to assist various businesses and organizations across industries.

Students learn how manage software, hardware and cloud services and provide network administration, storage, information security, device management, cloud management and help desk services. They also develop the fundamental IT knowledge, and communication strategies.
