The Research Support Fund (RSF) helps Canadian postsecondary institutions with the costs associated with managing their research enterprise, helping them to maintain a world-class research environment. At RRC Polytech, the office of Research Partnerships and Innovation (RPI) oversees and administers the Research Support Fund.
The indirect costs of research are defined as operational costs that support the entire research enterprise. Some of the expenses incurred by RRC Polytech for managing research funded by the Tri-Agency (Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)) includes the use and maintenance of the organization’s facilities, salaries of managerial and administrative staff, research support services (RPI and Financial Services), and digital resources (Information Technology Solutions and Library and Academic Services).
Research Support Fund allocation varies from year to year and is based on a percentage of our total federal research funding received from the Tri-Agency over three years. Research Support funding is awarded annually and must be spent in the fiscal year (April 1st to March 31st) that they are awarded. A full list of eligible expenses is provided.
No carryover or deferral of funds is permitted.
Institutions are able to spend their RSF allocations in a variety of ways within five major expenditure areas:
