How to Navigate Your Job Search – Session for Students with Disabilities (Mar 7)

RRC Polytech’s Career Services, in collaboration with MentorAbility Manitoba, is hosting a virtual presentation for students with disabilities to gain knowledge and strategies to successfully enter the workforce. 

This session will provide insights on:

  • Current labour market for people with disabilities
  • Effective job search strategies
  • Accommodations – approaches & challenges
  • Resources to explore

There will be time to ask questions at the end of this presentation.

MentorAbility Manitoba, led by WASO (Work And Social Opportunities), is a program that unlocks potential for persons experiencing disability, paving the way to fulfilling careers informed through mentorship. But MentorAbility Manitoba isn’t just about supporting job seekers; it’s also about empowering employers to build more inclusive, productive, and successful workplaces. 

Team Leader at WASO: Work and Social Opportunities Inc., a supportive employment agency serving individuals with intellectual disabilities. With 11 years of experience in employment support, she assists job seekers through one-on-one coaching and skill-building workshops. Chelsey is dedicated to empowering individuals facing employment barriers by providing job development and coaching. WASO has been supporting individuals with disabilities since 1981, growing from one location to six unique sites. Through her work, Chelsey helps individuals build the skills and confidence needed to achieve meaningful employment.

HUB Coordinator for the Manitoba Area, Wade brings extensive experience in career development, education, and facilitation. He collaborates with employment service providers, employers, community partners, and stakeholders to enhance employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Through the WASO MentorAbility Program, Wade works to foster full workforce participation by providing resources, expertise, and support. His focus is on creating meaningful connections between job seekers and inclusive employers, helping individuals gain workplace experience while assisting employers in meeting their unique labor needs through inclusive hiring practices.

Hub Facilitator for MentorAbility Manitoba, joining the WASO Hub in July 2024. With a background in disability support, she has worked as a direct support worker in residential and day programs and as an elementary school educational assistant. Passionate about empowerment, Brittney is dedicated to promoting understanding and respect for individuals with disabilities. Through WASO and MentorAbility, she helps individuals explore career opportunities while providing employers with valuable insights into inclusive hiring practices through mentorship experiences.

TELUS Student Bursary: Financial Support for Community-Minded Students

February 18, 2025

The TELUS Student Bursary offers financial assistance to deserving young Canadians committed to giving back in their local communities by taking on a social impact project.

Recipients receive $3,000 (college) or $5,000 (university) to help cover tuition fees at Canadian post-secondary institutions.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

To be eligible for this opportunity, you must:

  • Be between the ages of 17 and 29 and in critical financial need.
  • Be accepted into, or attending, a first undergraduate degree or diploma program at a college, university, or polytechnic institute in Canada.
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Commit to delivering a social impact initiative during your studies that will have a positive social or environmental impact in your community.

Registration is now open for the Get Job Search Ready Series!

Career Services is providing a workshop series on the development of employment documents and skills for students!

The Get Job Search Ready series will be covering the following topics:

  • Job Search
  • Resumes
  • Cover Letters
  • Interviews
  • LinkedIn

These workshops are designed for students in business-related programs. All students are welcome to attend and adapt the information to their field.

The workshops will be delivered virtually during March, on Thursdays and Fridays from 12pm – 1pm.

Kick off January with the BMO Capital Markets Canadian Campus Pre-Recruitment Season Virtual Series!

BMO invites you to join them for a series of virtual “Lunch and Learn” sessions to help you prepare for their upcoming recruitment season.

Each session will be 45 minutes and you will receive an overview of their recruitment process, timelines and eligibility requirements. You are encouraged to come prepared with your questions.

Federal Internship Program for Canadians with Disabilities

If you answered yes, we invite you to explore The Federal Internship Program for Canadians with Disabilities (FIPCD).

What is FIPCD?

FIPCD is a national recruitment program providing internship opportunities in the federal public service to persons with disabilities.

This national program aims to increase the economic inclusion of persons with disabilities by developing key skills for future employment. It also seeks to increase public service representation and retention of persons with disabilities.

The internships offered are entry-level and developmental, requiring little to no previous job experience, 18 months in duration at a minimum, and are located in cities across the country.

Internship offers are now available. These include positions in human resources, administration, information technology, accessibility, and more.

Manitoba Hydro Summer Employment Progam

Manitoba Hydro is recruiting over 200 full-time summer employment opportunities throughout Manitoba. Apply before January 31, 2025!

Jobs are available in a number of areas, including, but not limited to:

  • accounting
  • business administration
  • construction
  • engineering
  • entry-level (undeclared, U1, etc.)
  • environmental
  • general labour
  • geography
  • information technology
  • trades & technology

To be eligible for summer employment, you must be a student who is:

  • at least 16 years of age
  • legally eligible to work in Canada
  • living in Manitoba for the full duration of your work term
  • enrolled in full-time studies both before and after the work term

If you will not be returning to school after the work term but need a co-op term to graduate, you are still eligible.

To apply, you must complete the Summer Student Application Questionnaire.

Apply before January 31, 2025, to be considered for career-related positions. 

Resumés are matched to available positions starting February 1, and work terms run from May to August.

You will need a PDF of your resume and cover letter.
