Career Services is committed to ensuring RRC Polytech students and alumni are provided with supports and resources they require to build successful careers. In this session, students will learn how Career Advisors can support students and recent graduates seeking summer, part-time, full-time, and temporary employment.
Length: 15 minutes
Building professional relationships is the most effective way to connect with job opportunities and gain additional support for career growth. In this session, students will recognize the importance of networking, who their contacts are, how to approach employers and introduce themselves effectively.
Length: 50 minutes
Having a professional resume can greatly improve a student’s chance of getting an interview. In this session, students will obtain information on how to create an effective resume that highlights their skills, is tailored to their target industry, and gets them screened into the interview!
Length: 50-90 minutes
The best resumes contain accomplishment-based skill statements that clearly indicate how the applicant meets the posting’s requirements. By taking the time to write tailored skill statements, job seekers can impress employers and stand out among the competition. In this presentation, students will learn how to deconstruct job ads, how to identify keywords and key hiring criteria, and how to use this information to craft effective skill statements.

Do employers even want cover letters? Yes! Submitting a convincing cover letter to accompany a resume is an important part of the application process. In this session, students will learn what a professional cover letter looks like and a cover letter that an employer will actually read!

A LinkedIn profile can be a great tool to showcase one’s professional experience and achievements. Having a complete and up-to-date profile is essential if you want to be found by and impress the right people. In this presentation, students will learn how to build a LinkedIn profile that makes a positive first impression, improves search rankings and opens doors to making new connections.

Once you have built your profile, you’re ready to connect with others! Growing and engaging your LinkedIn network is the most effective way to access the potential of the platform. In this presentation, students will learn how to communicate their professional brand, how to find and add connections, how to create content and participate in online conversations, and how to provide value to their network.

An interview is an essential element to securing a job and preparation is key. In this session, students will obtain tips on the best interview practices and what to do before, during and after an interview including how to prepare for virtual interviews.
Length: 50 minutes
This session will allow students the opportunity to see different interview questions, understand why employers ask them and learn how to provide responses that the employers are looking for.
Length: 30–50 minutes
This session provides students with the opportunity to practice their interview skills through either small groups or 1-on-1 mock interviews. In these mock interviews, students will be asked a series of interview questions and be provided feedback and coaching on their personal presentation and responses.
