Tuition Waiver Info Sessions

November 9, 2021

Futures Forward will be hosting several virtual Tuition Waiver Information Sessions for youth who are currently or have formerly been in the care of Manitoba Child and Family Services (CFS).

The Tuition Waiver program offers a bursary for current/former youth in care to have their yearly tuition covered.  10 partner schools across the province, including Red River College Polytechnic, are ready to support students on their journey towards academic success.

If you are someone you know is interested in learning more, please register for one of the following information sessions:

November is Career and Workforce Development Month in Manitoba and Red River College Polytechnic’s Student Employment Services (SES) has planned a month-long series of learning opportunities, live AMAs (Ask Me Anything) and interactive sessions to help students with their career development.

Week 1 Theme: Job Search Strategies

Career Conversations through the RRC Polytech Café

The RRC Polytech Café, powered by Ten Thousand Coffees (10KC), is RRC’s free online networking and mentorship platform that connects students and alumni through virtual ‘coffee chats’ and exclusive nationwide events with career development experts. More than 3,000 current students and alumni members have already joined the Café.

How does it work? Students and Alumni fill out a profile with education, experience, and interest tags. This information is then used to drive smart-match introductions between community members every month. Faculty, employers, industry partners, and supporters can also connect with students and alumni on RRC Polytech’s hub. Check out this 60-second video to see the platform in action.

CBC Manitoba Pathways

October 29, 2021

CBC Manitoba is launching a new project: CBC Manitoba Pathways.

This is a full-time, paid, five-month development opportunity for up to three Indigenous, Black or other people of colour candidates to learn the essential elements of working as a reporter in a CBC newsroom.

In this project, the successful candidates will:

  • Learn essential training to develop skills for working in a modern newsroom.
  • Work in journalism, from digital writing to radio and television broadcast.
  • Grow relationships with coaches, mentors and their fellow Pathways cohort.

As well as hands-on experience and coaching, Pathways will also offer a “journalism bootcamp” with instructors from across Canada.

The deadline to apply is Nov. 10, 2021.

The program runs from Dec 1., 2021, to April 30, 2022.
