Each year the International Day of Peace is observed all around the world on September 21. The first Peace Day was observed in September 1982. This is a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace among all nations and people.
The theme of this year’s International Day of Peace is the “Right of Peoples to Peace”. It’s an opportunity to be reminded of the purposes and principles of the United Nations.
On this Day of Peace, the United Nations invites all people in all nations to cease hostilities, and to participate in education and public awareness about peace issues.

With this attention on peace and human rights, it’s a perfect time for Winnipeg’s grand opening of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights! Opening Weekend is September 19 – 21, featuring Opening Ceremonies (watch them live on September 19), Rights Fest (free performances and activities on September 20 and 21), and a free outdoor concert (performances from many well-known Canadian artists on September 20).
