Human Rights Museum opens on the International Day of Peace

September 15, 2014

Peace day
Each year the International Day of Peace is observed all around the world on September 21. The first Peace Day was observed in September 1982. This is a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace among all nations and people.
The theme of this year’s International Day of Peace is the “Right of Peoples to Peace”. It’s an opportunity to be reminded of the purposes and principles of the United Nations.
On this Day of Peace, the United Nations invites all people in all nations to cease hostilities, and to participate in education and public awareness about peace issues.

The "Emergency Scam" in Canada – Protect Yourself and Your Family

August 1, 2014

scam
Phone scams and online scams have become very common all over the world. The people who commit these crimes try to trick others into providing their personal information and then they use this information to steal their victim’s identity or money. Many times this is done through Facebook or other similar online chat forums around the world because these are places where many people post personal information. Even though it is common problem, and we hear about it often, it is still easy to get fooled. It can happen to anyone!
One scam being talked about among LTC students is known as the “Emergency Scam”. It is a well known scam in some Asian countries and is making its way to Canada. The Winnipeg Police Commercial Crime Unit is aware of this scam, as well as many others, and they are willing to help however possible. One way is to help us learn more about scams and how to prevent them.

Narcisse Snake Dens

May 23, 2014

narcisse
Are you looking for something fun, exciting, free and somewhat creepy to do this spring? One of Manitoba’s most famous attractions, the Narcisse Snake Dens, is the place to be! Every year, tens of thousands of red-sided garter snakes come out of their winter homes to meet ‘that special someone’. Actually, the snakes come to the surface to perform a fascinating mating ritual before going off to nearby marshes for the summer. The snakes only stay at the Narcisse Dens for a few weeks at this time of year, so don’t miss your chance to see them.
When: Now! The dens are open every day. The best time to see a lot of snakes is on a warm, sunny day.
Where: Narcisse Snake Dens are located about 130 km north of Winnipeg. It takes about 1.5 hours to get there by car. Here is a map.
Cost: Free!
Watch this short video about the snakes at Narcisse.
