Free Event: Monarch Butterfly Festival

July 14, 2022

Join Winnipeggers as they celebrate the 14th annual Monarch Butterfly Festival at the Living Prairie Museum (located at 2795 Ness Avenue).

Enjoy crafts, exhibit booths, live butterflies, guided hikes, and milkweed (the Monarch’s favourite food) giveaways while quantities last!

Tips for Attendance

  • Pack some water and snacks.
  • Be prepared to be outside for most of your visit!
  • Refer to onsite schedule and maps for activity locations.
  • Guided hikes each day, starting at 10:30am, 12:00pm, and 1:15pm.
  • Donation incentives (butterfly wrist bands) will be cash only.
  • Free on-street parking is available.

Canadian Immigrant Fair

This free, one-stop event connects newcomers with information and inspiration on the three pillars of immigrant success: Careers, Education and Settlement. The fair provides information for immigrants who need help as they look for jobs, go back to school and settle in their new home. Students can connect with employers, recruiters, immigrant service providers, educational institutions, and government services that can support them on their journey.

  1. Catch a Free Concert 
    • Catch free concerts by local Winnipeg artists at various downtown locations all summer! Concerts run from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm on Tuesdays from June to September.

    • Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, practice your English, get Canadian work experience and help the community.

    • ‘The Loop’ is an 8 km long walk with 49 stops connecting the city’s central neighbourhoods.

Canada Day: July 1

Here are some fun, free ways celebrate Canada Day on July 1st:

  • The Forks: Learn about Indigenous culture, take a tour, enjoy food trucks or a picnic, check out some free concerts and watch the African Cup of Nations soccer tournament.
  • Assiniboine Park: Enjoy free concerts at the Lyric Theatre and the Gardens at The Leaf, bring the kids to a bouncy castle and slide in the Lyric field and check out many other activities at the park.

Free Citizenship Classes

Have you applied for Canadian citizenship? Do you want help preparing for the test?

If the answer to these two questions is YES, you might be interested in the free citizenship classes offered by the Immigrant Centre.

The classes are 2 hours once a week for 6 weeks. They will be offered via Zoom.

These 6 classes will cover everything you need to learn from the Discover Canada Guide sent to you by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Newcomers Focus Group Invitation

The Focus Group is part of the museum’s Listening Tour; a conversation meant to invite Manitobans to share their ideas about the future of the Manitoba Museum. The information gathered from community members will be used to help shape the future of the Museum. Newcomers have been identified as individuals who bring an invaluable perspective to this important process.
