New Legal Support Hotline for Ukrainians

The Government of Canada is working with Pro Bono Ontario to offer free legal supports to Ukrainian newcomers across Canada (and pre-arrival) with questions about immigration and legal systems. Assistance is available in English, French and Ukrainian.

Free Activity for Students: Paint a Pot or Butterfly

Join the RRCSA and Campus Well-Being for a night of pottery or wood painting! Enjoy some relaxing, unhurried creative time by picking a small terracotta ready-to-paint flowerpot or a wooden butterfly and transforming it into your own amazing work of art.

First Fridays at the Manitoba Museum

The Manitoba Museum is offering free admission on the First Friday of every month from 4 pm to 9 pm to their three core attractions – the Museum Galleries, Planetarium, and Science Gallery.

No ticket is required for First Friday programming unless otherwise specified.

Lights on the Exchange- Closing Night

March 21st is the last night to enjoy Lights on the Exchange.

Lights on the Exchange is a public winter arts festival in Winnipeg’s Exchange District. From brick and terracotta buildings to storefronts, rooftops and alleyways, Lights on the Exchange – Allumez le Quartier invites you to explore light in its many forms and settings. Canadian artists create fresh, contemporary installations, sculptures and projections that reveal a reimagined history of the area.

Free Business Support & Training Program

March 15, 2024

SEED Winnipeg will be offering the IBESTImmigrant Business & Enterprises Support & Training Program in May and June. IBEST program is a FREE 6-week business training and consulting program available to newcomers in Manitoba living on a low income who have a business idea. Classes are interactive and encourage questions and discussion. The program is presented in 3 phases:

  • Phase 1: Small Business Management Training
  • Phase 2: One-to-one Business Consulting
  • Phase 3: Business Launch & Aftercare

Who can join:

  • Have permanent resident status (a permanent residence number is required) or CUAET visas
  • Are residents of Manitoba
  • Have a business idea
  • Have some skill, experience, or training in the area desired to start a business
  • Are on a low-income

The training will be presented virtually on Zoom. Classes are 3 days per week total 17 classes from May 13th to June 21st.

To join this program, applicants need to attend one of our information sessions. Information sessions will take place on the following dates:

  • April 2, 6-8 pm
  • April 8, 6-8 pm
  • April 15, 6-8 pm

Free Activity: Birds Hill Park Walk

Spend some time in nature – join fellow students for a guided walk through the Chickadee Trail at Birds Hill Park. We will spend some time bird watching and walking through the trails.

Saturday, March 23, 2024

Roundtrip by Chartered Bus – 9:45am to 1pm. REGISTER – Seating is limited. You may also register family members to attend (space permitting).

The bus will stop at NDC at 9:45am and then at EDC at 10:00am.

OR provide your own transportation and meet the group at Chickadee Trailhead at 10:40am in Birds Hill Provincial Park.

The Nature of Things: Screening & Discussion

Winnipeg Public Library has partnered with CBC’s The Nature of Things for a panel talk and discussion at Millennium Library, Thursday, March 14, from 5:00-7:00 pm. The show’s host will be presenting and local filmmakers also speaking as to behind the scenes of the shows, and environmental filmmaking and journalism.
