English Conversation Circle

January 18, 2023

Hosted by the Academic Success Centre, RRC Polytech / LTC students (with CLB levels 6+) are invited to join the weekly English Conversation Circle to strengthen speaking skills, and build connection and confidence through communication practice.

No registration required, just drop in and join the conversation! 

  • Tuesdays, 12-1pm at Exchange District Campus (EDC), Library Classroom P204
    • January 10th – February 14th

Each week, the English Conversation Circle will practice different conversational speaking skills, including:

  • Starting a Conversation
  • Closing a Conversation
  • Interrupting
  • Resuming after an interruption
  • Giving opinions
  • Asking personal questions
  • Keeping the Conversation Going
  • Checking Comprehension

Conversation skills will be practiced around topics of interest to the group, including:

  • Getting to know one another
  • Family & Friends
  • Winter activities
  • Cultural practices
  • Getting to know Winnipeg

Are you ready for the career fair?

LTC Student Support Services is offering a new presentation that will help students to prepare for the upcoming RRC Polytech Students’ Association Career Fairs.

Join LTC Work Integrated Learning Coordinator, Chris Reeve, for a short online presentation about getting the most out of career fairs. Topics will include:

  • What to expect
  • What to bring
  • How to make a good first impression
  • How to introduce yourself
  • and more!

Writing for Success Workshop Series

The Academic Success Centre is offering a six-part online workshop series this term called Building Your Writing Foundation . The series is open to all RRC Polytech / LTC students with CLB levels 6+. The series includes six sessions that will equip you with foundational writing skills for your college success!

You are welcome to attend any or all of the six sessions. No registration is required, just log on!

Sessions will be held Wednesdays from 12:15-12:45pm on Webex. Log on for all workshops using this link.  Use your RRC Polytech credentials to join!

Are you an internationally educated health professional (IEHP)?

If so, you won’t want to miss the University of Manitoba’s IEHP Hub event where you can learn about language training and resources available to IEHPs in Manitoba.

Here are the details:

  • When: Monday, December 12, from 6-8pm
  • Where: 319 Elgin Ave (Red River College Polytech – Language Training Centre), Roundhouse Atrium (second floor)
  • What: There will be presentations from the University of Manitoba’s IEHP Hub and from some of our partners, including RRC’s language programs, The Newcomer Employment Hub, and SEED Winnipeg. Time for tours, door prizes, networking and asking questions will also be part of the agenda, and light refreshments (coffee/tea and cookies) will be provided.

November 16: The Anniversary of the Death of Louis Riel

137 years ago, Louis Riel was executed for high treason on November 16, 1885. Today, we remember him as a leader and trailblazer of Métis rights. We commemorate his dedication to carving out a place for Métis people in Canada and want to take this opportunity to acknowledge Métis peoples’ historical and modern contributions to Canadian society.

NEW Winnipeg and Steinbach Learning Labs

NEW Monday and Thursday Labs

Language Training Centre (LTC) Student Support Services is now offering two new Learning Labs for LTC permanent resident students.

LTC students seeking additional support can drop-in to any of the labs that are available each week:

  • NEW* Monday Learning Lab from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in room 16 (Grace Mennonite Church).
  • Tuesday Learning Lab from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in computer lab room P403 (Exchange District Campus).
  • Wednesday Learning Lab from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in computer lab room W312 (Exchange District Campus).
  • NEW* Thursday Learning Lab from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in computer lab room P404 (Exchange District Campus).
  • Friday Learning Lab from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in room 16 (Grace Mennonite Church).

Reflection Rooms at RRC Polytech

RRC Polytech is dedicated to fostering an environment where all individuals are welcomed, respected, and supported to participate fully. We work every day to recognize the needs of students and employees and ensure the right conditions are in place so that each person can achieve their full potential.

In the spirit of Inclusion Week, we’d like to introduce spiritual support available for students and staff on the Notre Dame and Exchange District Campuses. The Reflection Rooms at RRC Polytech are spaces for personal or spiritual reflection, prayer, meditation, or individual contemplation. The Reflection Rooms are non-denominational spaces open to people of all religions, faiths, and/or spiritual practices.

Here are some important reminders to ensure that the space is used for its intended purpose:

  • Please bring with you any items you may need for prayer, reflection etc.
  • Due to space limitations, storage of these items is impossible. Take them with you when you go.
  • Respect each other if more than one person is using the space.
  • Respect the space. If you move anything, please put it back where it was found.
  • Respect the scent-free policy of the College – use of incense, sage, or other such materials in this room is not permitted.
  • No sleeping or napping in the room
  • No eating or drinking in the room
  • No telephone conversations, texting, attending virtual meetings, visiting with others, or using this space for small group meetings.
  • Enjoy the space. Reflect. Recharge. Renew

The spaces are open from 7 am to 5 pm, Monday – Friday.

For access after hours, students can contact Security Services at any of the locations and they will the space.
