In-Person Information Session: City of Winnipeg

Are you a Manitoba Start active job seeker who may be interested in learning more about careers within the City of Winnipeg?

Manitoba Start is hosting an Informational Session with City of Winnipeg.

  • When: November 21, 2023, from 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm
  • Where: Manitoba Start, 271 Portage Avenue

The City of Winnipeg is one of the largest employers in Manitoba and It provides a wide range of services to over half of all Manitobans. It values a dynamic and diverse workforce of highly skilled people working together to deliver excellent service to the citizens of Winnipeg.

This event will provide an opportunity to learn about the opportunities available in the City of Winnipeg and what skills, experience and education are required.

This event will cover:

• Overview of the City of Winnipeg
• Typical jobs available throughout the year including current openings
• Workplace culture, professional development and benefits and incentives for employees
• The application processes and tips for success (resumes and interviews)
• Q&A with a City of Winnipeg representative

Types of positions currently advertised: office and administrative assistants, accounting technicians, welders, software developers, human resources, and many more.

Being adaptable is also important because it showcases your ability to be resourceful, displays your leadership skills, determination, analytical skills and more.

Thrive Week is a time to focus on the importance of balance and self-care in developing positive mental health that supports success in learning and working.

We invite you to take a moment to do something that gets you active, creative, connected or relaxed – whatever it is you need for balance. All events are free and open to students and staff.

Participate in one of our events offered virtually or in-person: Don Amero – Keynote presentation, Hip Hop Challenge, Self-Defense Demo, Therapy Dogs, Explore the Universe Planetarium show, Mini Golf, Indigenous Infused Yoga, Movie and Popcorn Lunch, Library Puzzles/Adult Colouring stations and a Birds Hill Provincial Park hike.

  1. Mock Interviews 
    • A simulation of an actual job interview that gives someone the chance to practice what to say and do during an interview and receive feedback. 
    • For additional information on mock interviews, contact an LTC- Student Integration Coordinator, Jillian (jhoogland@rrc.ca) for Winnipeg students or Christy (cdepp@rrc.ca) for regional students. 
  2. Soft Skills 
    • A set of personality characteristics that help employees to interact with others effectively in the workplace. Some examples of soft skills include: interpersonal (people) skills, communication skills, listening skills, time management, problem-solving, and leadership skills. They are often among the top skills employers seek in the candidates they hire because soft skills are important for all jobs.
