Free Activity: Birds Hill Park Walk

Spend some time in nature – join fellow students for a guided walk through the Chickadee Trail at Birds Hill Park. We will spend some time bird watching and walking through the trails.

Saturday, March 23, 2024

Roundtrip by Chartered Bus – 9:45am to 1pm. REGISTER – Seating is limited. You may also register family members to attend (space permitting).

The bus will stop at NDC at 9:45am and then at EDC at 10:00am.

OR provide your own transportation and meet the group at Chickadee Trailhead at 10:40am in Birds Hill Provincial Park.

The Nature of Things: Screening & Discussion

Winnipeg Public Library has partnered with CBC’s The Nature of Things for a panel talk and discussion at Millennium Library, Thursday, March 14, from 5:00-7:00 pm. The show’s host will be presenting and local filmmakers also speaking as to behind the scenes of the shows, and environmental filmmaking and journalism.

First Fridays @ the Manitoba Museum

The Manitoba Museum is offering free admission on the First Friday of every month from 4 pm to 9 pm to their three core attractions – the Museum Galleries, Planetarium, and Science Gallery.

No ticket is required for First Friday programming unless otherwise specified.

Employment-Related Conversation Circles

West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) is hosting employment-related, virtual conversation circles in March 2024.

The sessions will be offered on Zoom at the following times:

  • Weekday mornings 10 AM – 12 PM
    • Monday – Thursday, March 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th, 2024
  • Weekend mornings 10 AM – 12 PM
    • Sundays and Saturdays, March 9th- 10th and March 16th – 17th, 2024

*Zoom link will be shared before the first session of each series

Topics will include:

  • Communication in the workplace
  • Canadian workplace culture
  • Preparation for job interviews
  • Using body language and gestures in Canadian workplace culture

Women and non-binary participants 18 +, with a beginner’s level of speaking ability are encouraged to join.

RRC Polytech Pop-Up Library: February 27

In addition, library staff will be on hand to show you how to access the library’s eBook collection and answer questions about the library and what they offer.

Manitoba Aviation Career Fair

The Manitoba Aviation Council invites you to attend this in-person aviation career fair. Meet recruiters from variety of aviation companies, including Westjet, Air Tindi, Harbour Air, Air Transat, NavCanada, Calm Air, Southport, as well as educational institutions like Red River College and Providence College, and pilot training companies Harv’s Air, Mountain City, and Winnipeg Aviation.

February is Black History Month

February 15, 2024

February is Black History Month, an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black Canadians and their communities, who have been a part of shaping Canada’s heritage and identity. The theme for Black History Month 2024 is Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build. You can learn more about Black history in Canada on the Government of Canada website.

RRC Polytech is sponsoring a community event entitled Supporting the Winnipeg Black Collective: Action Vision & Change on February 16th at Fort Richmond Collegiate. All members of the College community are invited to show their support by attending the symposium featuring a keynote address by Canada’s award-winning Black Justice Strategy Co-author, Zilla Jones, BMA, JD.

The evening’s festivities will celebrate Afro-Caribbean Black Canadian communities’ by paying homage to its rich history and celebrating Afro-Caribbean Black (ACB) people’s great accomplishments in our present times. The evening’s social gathering will encourage audience members to dance, sing and contribute to a thought-provoking panel discussion on the Black experiences in Winnipeg, empowering ACB community members, and supporting local Black Businesses and Initiatives.

The third annual event is organized by the Afro-Caribbean Mentorship Program (ACMP) and the University of Manitoba Black Alliance (UMBA). RSVP is required as space is limited.
