REDI Program

Welding and Metal Fabrication Stream 

Are you ready to start a new career in the high-demand field of welding and metal fabrication? 

Develop the English language and numeracy skills needed to work as a welder and receive a cultural orientation to working in Canada. Learn the skills and acquire the knowledge you need to perform metal inert gas (MIG) welding processes and related metal fabrication operations safely and effectively. 

Upon completing the program, you will have the knowledge and skills necessary to find your first job as a welder and start your career in welding and metal fabrication. 

This program is a partnership between RRC Polytech and Winnipeg Industrial Skills Training Centre Inc. and is funded by The Government of Canada and The Manitoba Government.

Program Structure

The Welding and Metal Fabrication stream of the REDI program has two parts:

Part 1

Sector-Specific Language Training

Delivered by RRC Polytech’s Centre for Newcomer Integration

  • Duration: 10 weeks
  • Location: RRC Polytech, Manitou a bi Bii daziigae, 319 Elgin Ave.
  • Delivery: Blended (a combination of online and in-person classes)
  • Fees: No cost 

Part 2

Occupation-Specific Job Skills Training

Delivered by Winnipeg Industrial Skills Training Centre (WISTC)

  • Duration: 24 weeks
  • Location: WISTC, 903 King Edward St.
  • Delivery: Primarily in-person, with online classes for the first 10 weeks
  • Fees: No cost

Who Should Enrol?

Is This Program For You?

Consider this program if you:

  • are willing to work in an industrial environment, which can be noisy and dirty
  • are willing and able to follow strict safety protocols
  • have access to a computer or laptop with a webcam, internet access, plus a headset with microphone

Eligibility

You must meet all the eligibility requirements below:

  • A newcomer to Canada (less than two years in Canada)
  • Permanent Resident (PR), Refugee Claimant with Work Permit, or CUAET visa holder
  • An English level of CLB 1-4
  • Unemployed or working less than 20 hours per week
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • 18 years of age or older

    Once completed, your application will be reviewed and processed. If you qualify, you will be sent an email confirming your acceptance into the program.
  4. Get Ready for Classes
    Make sure you have everything you need to start your classes and upgrade your career!
