Equity, Diversity and Inclusion on Campus

Diversity Counts

At RRC Polytech, diversity counts, and we are committed to pursuing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA) in everything we do. To do this, your participation is essential to know who’s here at the College. The Employment Equity Self-Identification Questionnaire helps us assess our current EDIA representation and adopt/review our initiatives, programs, and policies to ensure meaningful progress in our EDIA priorities and goals.

Employee self-identification goes beyond mere numbers. It’s about learning and understanding the power of our diversity and nurturing an inclusive culture where both students and staff feel safe and included. This involves removing barriers to ensure equal access and participation and establishing supportive learning and working environments to help everyone succeed.

Your Voice Matters

We recognize that some staff and students may have already self-identified while others have never participated. Either way, we encourage all employees and students to self-declare or review and update their self-identification. If you do not identify as belonging to any of the equity-deserving groups, your participation is still important, and we encourage you to respond by selecting ‘No’ in each equity-deserving group. This information helps us to better understand our employee and student representation.

  • It’s easy – self-identification takes about two minutes to complete.
  • It’s simple – you select the option that best represents your status for each of the five equity-deserving groups.
  • It’s voluntary – employees and students can choose to participate and choose how they want to identify for each equity-deserving group.
  • It’s confidential – self-identification data is collected and stored confidentially, and only aggregate data will be reported.
  • It’s impactful – your participation is vital in helping us assess RRC Polytech’s diversity and representation, which will support the development of future inclusive and equitable programs and initiatives.

As part of our commitment to an inclusive and diverse community, we invite all employees and students to self-identify as belonging to one or more of the following equity-deserving groups:

  • Women – refers to a person who internally identifies and/or publicly expresses as a woman. This may include cisgender and transgender individuals. Cisgender means that one’s gender identity matches one’s sex assigned at birth. Transgender means one’s gender identity differs from one’s sex assigned at birth.
  • Indigenous Peoples – An Indigenous Person is recognized as “one of the Aboriginal peoples of Canada” within the meaning of section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982, which further states that the “Aboriginal peoples of Canada include the Indian, Inuit, and Métis peoples of Canada”. For the purposes of this questionnaire, the term First Nation will be utilized in place of Indian.
  • Racialized Persons – in Canada, it is someone (other than an Indigenous Person) who self-identifies as a Person of colour regardless of birthplace or citizenship (sometimes referred to as “visible minority” or racialized person).
  • Persons with Disabilities – includes someone who has a significant, recurring or long-term physical, sensory, psychiatric or learning disability which may hinder their full and equal participation in society. This may also include a person who due to a disability, has been currently accommodated in the workplace or College life. RRC Polytech uses the term ‘disability’ to be consistent with the language used in the Manitoba Human Rights Code. We understand and respect that some students and employees do not identify with this label.
  • Persons of the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community – a person of the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community is someone who identifies as Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning and/or additional sexual orientations and gender identities.
