The Anti-Racism Action Committee develops and supports initiatives that create an equitable, diverse, and inclusive community at Red River College Polytechnic. This includes projects, events, and resources to advance diversity and inclusion for students and employees.

Objectives

The Anti-Racism Action Committee’s objectives are to:

  • Raise awareness within the college community on issues relating to all forms of bias, prejudice, discrimination, and racism, and the lived experiences and intersections of BIPOC college community members.
  • Create transformational learning for the College community to confront all forms of bias, prejudice, discrimination, and racism, and equip students and employees with the tools and resources to engage in productive and informed dialogue and action.
  • Host events and lead initiatives that support the continued dialogue around enhancing equity, diversity, and inclusion within the College.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Truth and Reconciliation to support and expand initiatives at the college relating to Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Create space and enhance motivation for college community members to apply knowledge and understanding about equity, diversity, and inclusion, and catalyze action at RRC Polytech to implement strategic goals.

Initiatives

Social Justice Engagement Club

The Social Justice Engagement Club is a subcommittee of the Anti-Racism Action Committee and meets bimonthly on Teams to explore videos, books, and other resources to engage in discussion and advance Truth and Reconciliation, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Membership is made up of volunteers around the College with a common commitment to learning and improving the social environment for all members of the community. The Social Justice Engagement Club leads professional development opportunities that are available to the College community year-round.

Truth and Reconciliation Community of Practice

We recognize and honour Treaty 3 Territory Shoal Lake 40 First Nation, the source of Winnipeg’s clean drinking water. In addition, we acknowledge Treaty Territories which provide us with access to electricity we use in both our personal and professional lives.
