Become a vital part of the health care experience. Build the technical knowledge and practical skills you need to produce medical images, monitor patient health, and inform treatment.
Through the Medical Radiologic Technology program, you’ll learn to perform diagnostic and therapeutic imaging procedures using ionizing radiation and imaging equipment, in preparation for an entry-level career as a medical radiologic technologist (MRT).
Through classroom learning, simulated labs, and clinical experience, you’ll learn to produce diagnostic radiographic images (x-rays). You’ll also develop skills in fluoroscopy (real-time dynamic images that show movement) and computerized tomography (detailed cross-sectional images of the body).
As part of your professional duties, you’ll learn to verify patient information, educate patients and support persons about imaging procedures, and provide compassionate care for patients’ physical, cognitive and psychological needs. You’ll also ensure patients, staff and visitors are protected from radiation, monitor patients during procedures, and respond as necessary.
After completing this program, work in diagnostic imaging in hospitals or clinics, where you will analyze images for accuracy and quality, and administer substances required for procedures.
In this program, you’ll build the knowledge and skills needed to operate advanced imaging equipment as an entry-level medical radiologic technologist. You’ll learn to perform imaging procedures and support patients in various acute care settings, including operating rooms and intensive care units.
Explore the foundations of radiological technology, radiology physics, biology and patient care through laboratory activities.
Expand your knowledge, enhance your understanding of radiological theory and develop imaging skills in a simulated lab environment.
Further your understanding of radiological theory while developing advanced imaging skills in a simulated lab environment. Explore issues affecting health care.
Work alongside MRTs in an acute care centre to build crucial work experience and industry connections during your first clinical practicum.
Complete your second clinical practicum to further develop your imaging skills and expand your professional network.
Develop advanced clinical techniques and independent decision-making skills in preparation for graduation and a career as an entry-level technologist.
