Diagnostic Medical Sonography, also known as Ultrasound, uses high-frequency sound waves to aid medical diagnoses. As part of the patient care team, diagnostic medical sonographers assess patients and provide information to radiologists for diagnoses and patient health monitoring.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography – Ultrasound program prepares students, through theoretical and clinical training, to conduct ultrasound examinations focusing on obstetrics and gynecology, abdomen and superficial structures and vascular sonographic studies. This content is cross-referenced to the national competency profile set up by Sonography Canada.
This specialized profession requires a high degree of technical skills, hand-eye coordination, and exceptional interpersonal skills.
In this program, you’ll develop the theoretical and practical skills and attain the nationally recognized credentials necessary to work as a sonographer in a general-duty ultrasound department.
Discover abdominopelvic anatomy, physiology and disease while using the basics of ultrasound physics to operate a state-of-the-art ultrasound system.
Expand on theoretical knowledge and practical techniques for abdominal and pelvic ultrasound. Begin exploring obstetrical ultrasound.
Develop an expanded array of scanning techniques and knowledge of obstetrical ultrasound. Begin exploring superficial structures and vascular ultrasound.
Combine scanning techniques and communication skills with patient care in a general-duty ultrasound department under the supervision of a sonographer.

Apply sonographic skills independently, reaching entry-level competency, in preparation for employment and a career in diagnostic sonography.
