Industrial Arts Education

Build or upgrade your teaching skills to help youth pursue careers in trades and technology.

The Industrial Arts Education degree is a joint program offered by Red River College Polytechnic and the University of Winnipeg. Graduates will be eligible to certify as a K-12 teacher with the Province of Manitoba.

This experiential program develops the practical teaching and technical skills needed to create and teach engaging industrial arts and technology programs in middle and high schools across Manitoba.

You will develop collaboration, communication and critical thinking skills, and learn to plan and deliver lessons using Manitoba’s industrial arts curriculum. You’ll also use industry-standard equipment and techniques to explore woodworking, manufacturing, metalworking, graphic arts, photography, digital electronics, robotics, coding and engineering in RRC Polytech’s state-of-the-art facilities.

Before graduating, you will complete a series of student teaching practicums to meet potential employers, expand your professional network and build practical work experience with increasing independence.

5-Year Integrated Program

Credentials: Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Arts or Science

In this joint program, offered by RRC Polytech and the University of Winnipeg, you’ll complete education courses alongside arts and sciences courses related to your teachable major, Industrial Arts (IA), and a teachable minor.

3-Year After-Degree Program

Credential: Bachelor of Education

In this joint program, offered by RRC Polytech and the University of Winnipeg, you’ll build on your undergraduate degree and complete education courses in your teachable major (IA) and a teachable minor.

1-Year Accelerated Program

Credential: Diploma

In this RRC Polytech program, you will build on your Bachelor of Education and gain the expertise, practical skills and credentials you need to teach industrial arts education courses in Manitoba.

Experience a Polytechnic Education

5-YEAR INTEGRATED PROGRAM: EXPLORE YOUR PATHWAY

In this program, you will develop an applied-learning and student-centred approach to education and build the advanced skills needed to teach classes in Manitoba’s industrial arts curriculum.

Integrated Year 1

Build foundational skills in graphic arts, electronics, manufacturing, woodworking, arts and science while completing your first teaching practicum.

Integrated Year 2

Explore advanced industrial arts skills, robotics and engineering while studying Manitoba’s industrial arts curriculum and completing your second teaching practicum.

Integrated Year 3

Continue developing your industrial arts and education skills. Complete your third teaching practicum experience with more independence and new responsibilities.

Integrated Year 4

Learn to manage classroom facilities, develop courses and plan assessments while taking on full teaching responsibilities in your fourth teaching practicum experience.

Integrated Year 5

Sharpen your teaching skills and complete a final practicum in your minor subject area while exploring emerging topics and completing a capstone project.

3-YEAR AFTER-DEGREE PROGRAM: ADVANCE YOUR EDUCATION

In this program you will develop the advanced trade, technology and education skills you need to plan and teach engaging Industrial Arts programs in middle and high schools across Manitoba.

AFter-Degree Year 1

Build foundational industrial arts skills, explore teaching methodologies in Manitoba’s industrial arts curriculum and complete your first teaching practicum.

AFter-Degree Year 2

Develop advanced industrial arts and teaching skills and build experience as an independent teacher in your second teaching practicum.

Sharpen your teaching skills and complete a final practicum in your minor subject area.
