Charitable Remainder Trust

A Charitable Remainder Trust provides you with income and tax relief today, while ensuring a permanent legacy to RRC Polytech and savings to your estate upon your death. The impact of your gift will help RRC Polytech define our province’s economic viability and global position in the years and decades ahead.

Charitable Remainder Trust Benefits

Estate Protection

Your intentions remain confidential, and your capital is protected against potential challenges to your estate.

Tax Deductions

You may receive an immediate tax receipt for the present value of your CRT. US taxpayers may benefit from a tax-smart strategy to transform an appreciated asset into lifetime income without paying tax on capital gains. Contact us for details.

Ongoing Financial Support

You or your designated beneficiaries receive income from the CRT for a specified term. Upon the termination of the trust, the remainder of the funds will be donated to RRC Polytech.

How to plan for your CRT

  1. Seek Tax and Legal Advice
Speak with your tax advisor, estate planner and/or lawyer to determine if a CRT is the right choice for you.
  2. Establish the Trust
Work with your lawyer, financial planner and estate planner to establish the CRT by placing money into an irrevocable trust and naming RRC Polytech as your beneficiary.
  3. Receive Income from the Trust
Over the course of your life or for a designated time period, you (or you and your spouse) receive income in the form of interest earned by the trust. If your trust holds stocks and bonds, you will receive the dividends and interest, minus administration or trustee fees.
  4. Enjoy the Tax Benefits
Once the trust is established, you receive a tax receipt for the approximate future value of the trust. The receipt you receive will depend on the amount of your gift, your age at the time of your donation, any other income beneficiaries (for example, your spouse), and the current discount rate.
  5. Leave Your Legacy
Upon the termination of the trust, after the death of the final beneficiary or after the term of years, all assets in the trust will be distributed to charitable entities designated by the trust document – including, in this case, RRC Polytech.
