Located at the Notre Dame and Exchange District Campuses, our Indigenous Support Centres provide a home away from home where you can smudge, participate in events, cultural teachings and ceremonies, or spend time with friends. The welcoming atmosphere of our centres include a computer lab, kitchen, telephone, study area and lounge. We promote respectful cultural awareness for all students and staff.

Indigenous Education is stronger at RRC Polytech with the support of our Elders and Knowledge Keepers. Elders have always held positions of high esteem and importance; they are the living libraries that hold the wisdom, history and cultural knowledge of our Nations. Our Elders-in-Residence are here to support education through Indigenous ways of teaching, learning and leading. They play an important role in student and staff health, wellness, and cultural and spiritual development.

The Indigenous Admissions Advisor is the first point of contact for new and returning students of First Nation, Métis or Inuit ancestry. They can help you with your questions so you can start your educational journey with confidence. They provide support and guidance for the application process, admission requirements and registration, and will help you to select the program that is the best fit for you.

The Academic Liaison and Resource Coaches are here to support your learning needs to achieve academic success while you’re at Red River. They offer tutoring and coaching – both one-one-one and in groups. They can also help you define your own personal methods such as study skills, goal setting, and time management, so that you can move forward in your courses with confidence.

Navigation Coaches are a first point of contact for current Indigenous students and can help with everything from finding your way around campus, problem-solving, sharing important resources and information, understanding College processes and accessing community services. They will also help connect you with other important support team members, who together, can ensure you receive the help you need.

We know that in addition to your studies, your day-to-day life, your health and wellness, and your support network play an important role in your success. If you have any questions, whether it’s about how to access tutoring, learn about new information technology, or where to find child care, we can help you figure out those next steps. While academic programs have moved to alternate delivery, Counselling Services continues to operate via telephone and/or video conferencing. We are here to help students work through personal struggles, develop skills to manage better, and enjoy their college experience.

Are you aware of all the exciting opportunities there are for money to assist you in your education? There are many ways to help cover some of costs of your educational journey, and as an Indigenous student, there are specific opportunities just waiting for you to apply for. From student aid, to awards and bursaries, reach out to the Administrative and Financial Officer for help navigating these processes and learn about what may be available.

Student Employment Services provides personalized support and direction to students and recent graduates seeking summer, part-time, full-time and temporary employment. We offer assistance with job search strategies, cover letter and resume writing, interview preparation, employment application forms, informational interviews and current labor market information. We also work to build relationships with employers to ensure Indigenous students have employment connections and have a voice at the hiring table. Please visit rrc.ca/ses for more information.
