Scam and Fraud Protection

Have you ever received a scam phone call? Scammers can be very convincing over the phone. They may pretend to be government representatives, or contacting you about some business, bank, or other service that you use. They may even have some personal information about you, such as your name, which they use to try to gain your trust.

Be very careful not to share your personal information or to respond to requests without verifying that you are communicating with the correct person and agency. You can always hang up, and call the information line on the government website (do not use a number given over the phone) to confirm any information you are given.

Remember that Canadian government representatives will never use threatening language, or require immediate payment over the phone using credit card, wire transfer, or bitcoin.
