International Student Ambassador Reflection – Genelyn Navarro
When I reflect on my journey as an international student in Canada, I can’t help but feel a sense of overwhelming gratitude for the opportunities that have been presented to me. I remember the days when coming to Canada seemed like just a far-fetched plan that would never come to fruition. However, fate had a different plan in store for my family and me, and I found myself living in Canada and pursuing my visions.
The gratefulness in my heart has been a driving force for me to apply as an International Student Ambassador. I have always felt a deep desire to help others, and I believe that being an ambassador has provided me with an opportunity to do just that.
I want to inspire and encourage others who may be struggling to pursue their dreams, just as I did.
As an ambassador, I have had the chance to connect with students from all walks of life and listen to their stories. I have been able to witness their struggles and successes and offer a listening ear and words of encouragement.
I believe that my personal experiences have allowed me to better understand the trials that international students face, and I am thankful for the opportunity to support them in navigating those challenges.
My involvement as an ambassador and student volunteer in school activities and community events has allowed me to assist others and motivated me to grow as an individual. I have developed skills such as leadership, communication, and cultural awareness, which have been invaluable to me. I have also been able to make meaningful connections with people from all over the world, which has broadened my perspective on life and the world we live in. I was able to organize student activities and was invited to be a panel guest inside and outside the campus and many more.
My purpose for being here in Canada goes beyond pursuing my academic goals. It is about positively impacting others’ lives and helping them feel a sense of belonging and value. I feel blessed to have been allowed to serve as an ambassador and to guide others in their journey toward achieving their goals.
Overall, everything has been a life-changing memoir for me. The support provided by Red River College Polytech equipped me to enter the workforce. As a graduating student, the experiences have given me the confidence, skills, and knowledge necessary to be a leader in my community. I would encourage anyone passionate about extending a hand to others to consider becoming an ambassador. It is a rewarding experience that will leave a lasting impact on both the ambassador and the students they serve.
