International Student Ambassador Reflection – Olushola Emmanuel Adesanya
My reflection as an ambassador for international students at the RRC Polytechnic is a crucial component of learning and development. It enables me to assess my experiences and capitalize on my advantages.
I was selected as an ambassador without the rigorous campaign and election process. Representing the interests of my fellow international students is one of the many responsibilities of being a student ambassador. I may evaluate my communication of their interests and any gaps in my comprehension of their requirements via reflection. By doing so, I will be able to interact with other international student ambassadors and coordinators from the international department more successfully. We were able to identify areas where we need to conduct further studies and enhance communication abilities among students.
Being a student ambassador has been exciting, collectively as a team, we planned and attended major events, act as panels for new incoming international students, and provided insight into the college’s programs and opportunities. On various occasions, we were given tickets to attend city events, visit to Manitoba Museum, outdoor play and many other exciting events.
I acquired speaking skills as a student ambassador. At any given moment, I discussed my college experiences while studying and working in Canada. The most important thing I had to do as an ambassador was to reach out to many students in need of help. Even when I wasn’t addressing students, I was speaking to them. I became aware of the importance of my perspective as a student and my role as a student ambassador.
I can improve my leadership abilities by thinking back on my experiences as a student union ambassador. It enables me to recognize my areas of leadership needing improvement, pinpoint my leadership strengths and limitations, and make objectives for myself to advance as a leader.
This might entail strengthening my capacity to manage disagreements, becoming more proactive in seeking out possibilities for cooperation or honing my organizational abilities.
The most interesting part of being an ambassador was the opportunity to experience many diverse cultures and how to communicate with different people from diverse cultures. It was a great opportunity and I have learned a lot from my role as a student ambassador.
Overall, my reflection is a crucial component of becoming a student ambassador. It helped me to maintain my leadership, outreach, and communication abilities while also making sure that I am effectively advancing the interests of my fellow students.
In conclusion, my journey as an international student ambassador would not have been successful if not for the warm support I received from the international department and particularly from our coordinators Parmeet Ghatoaura, Yuko Sakurai, Nipun Verma, Della Chen, and other hard-working staff at the RRC Polytech International Education.
