Off-Campus Work Hours
As the Fall semester unfolds, we have important information regarding your off-campus work hours.
Off-Campus Work Eligibility: international students who meet the following criteria are eligible to work off-campus for up to 20 hours per week:
- Enroll as a full-time student at Red River College Polytechnic;
- Currently enroll in an academic program lasting at least 6 months, leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate;
- has a written condition on the study permit permitting off-campus employment;
- No other restrictions listed;
- Hold a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN).
You and your employer must make sure you can work off campus without a work permit before you start working. If you start working off campus but don’t meet the requirements, you may have to leave Canada.
You can only start working in Canada when your study program has started. You can’t work before you start your studies.
If you’re able to work during your studies, it’ll say so in the conditions on your study permit.
If you’re eligible for off-campus work, you don’t need a work permit.
Upcoming Changes for Fall 2024: Looking ahead to Fall 2024, the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is considering an increase in the off-campus work allowance for international students to 24 hours per week. However, this adjustment is pending final release from the IRCC at Work off campus as an international student – Canada.ca.
