Online VS In-person Requirement and PGWP Eligibility
International Students can apply for a PGWP if they want to work after completing their studies in Canada. To be able to apply, they must meet the following eligibility requirements:
General Eligibility
- Study Permit Validity: It must have been valid at some point during the 180 days after program completion.
- Program Requirements: Completed a program in Canada:
- At a designated learning institution (DLI),
- At least 8 months long, and
- That led to a degree, diploma, or certificate.
- Full-time Status: Maintain full-time status as an international student in Canada during each semester of your study program, except:
- studying part-time during your final semester
- taking an approved leave from your studies
- Language Proficiency: Meet the language requirement based on the study program:
-
- CLB 5 in English or NCLC 5 in French.
- Accepted tests (IELTS, CELPIP, TEF, TCF, PTE Core).
As an international student, you are required to take 50% or more of the total course load for the duration of your program in person. If your course schedule includes online courses, the total in-person component must still make up at least half of your overall course load. You will have to do the calculation of the in-person vs online component from the course schedule available on your HUB account.
It is advisable to prioritize in-person options as they contribute to a more comprehensive Canadian experience. If you complete the majority of the credits/courses by distance learning, you may not be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit. See detailed eligibilities on Post-Graduation Work Permits.
Primary Documents required from the College to Apply for PGWP:
