Amend Valid Temporary Resident Document

You may request to amend your valid temporary resident document if Canadian immigration officials have made an error in recording the information.

List of temporary resident documents that may be amended:

  • Visitor Record
  • Work Permit
  • Study Permit
  • Permit to come into or remain in Canada
  • Temporary Resident Permit

Study Permit Amendment Eligibility

You may amend your valid study permit only if you are eligible to work on or off-campus without a work permit at the time your current study permit was issued, and one of the following conditions or remarks does not appear on the document:

  • May accept employment on the campus of the institution at which registered in full-time studies.
  • May work 20 hrs off‐campus or full‐time during regular breaks if meeting criteria outlined in section 186(v) of IRPR.
  • May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186(f), (v) or (w). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria.

Note: If you become eligible to work on or off-campus without a work permit after your study permit was issued, you must apply to change the condition on your study permit.

What documents do I need to apply for amendment?

Prepare the following supporting documents to include with your application:

  • Photocopy of passport pages needs to show:
    • Page with passport number, dates of issue and expiry, name, date of birth.
    • Any marked page, including stamps and visas from either Canada or other countries.
  • Your original valid study permit.
  • Photocopy of the original Letter of Acceptance that you submitted to apply your current study permit.
  • Photocopy of the Confirmation of Enrolment.

How to apply for an amendment? (Online application is not available)

  1. Complete the Application Form, print, and signed – Request to Amend Valid Temporary Resident Documents or Information Contained in the Confirmation of Permanent Residence or [IMM1436]
  2. Gather Supporting Documents.
  3. Submit the completed application package by mail to below location:
