RRC Polytech students have access to Microsoft 365, a cloud-based service that includes but is not limited to:
The cloud is a network of servers that offers data storage accessible over the internet rather than your device’s hard drive. It reduces infrastructure costs and addresses scalability concerns.
Your data and emails are stored on the cloud, meaning they may pass through or be stored globally. Microsoft is US-based, so your data could be subject to the Patriot Act or other international privacy laws. No data, regardless of location, is entirely secure. Canadian and American authorities could access your data under some circumstances.
No emails are completely secure. Email privacy can be compromised during transmission, through insecure storage, or when forwarded by recipients. Never assume your emails are private and refrain from sending personal or health-related information. Keep your password confidential and change your password regularly.
If you do not want your data stored on the cloud, you may submit an IT support request to receive an on-site mailbox. This allows communication with the college and your instructors. The mailbox may not have some of the features and size limits offered in Microsoft 365.
RRC Polytech campuses are located on the lands of Anishinaabe, Ininiwak, Anishininew, Dakota, and Dené, and the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.
We recognize and honour Treaty 3 Territory Shoal Lake 40 First Nation, the source of Winnipeg’s clean drinking water. In addition, we acknowledge Treaty Territories which provide us with access to electricity we use in both our personal and professional lives.
