RRC Polytech Software Accessibility Standards

RRC Polytech requires a Level AA conformance to the WCAG 2.1 published guidelines for its web and desktop applications, whether produced internally or by third‑party providers. Application content and functionality is required to address The Accessibility for Manitobans Act standards. For detailed information about the standards and guidelines that apply to RRC Polytech software, please refer to the links provided in the following sections.

Web applications

The WCAG 2.1 site, within the international World Wide Web Consortium website, is a comprehensive resource of testable recommendations and guidelines for making web content accessible to a wide range of people with a variety of disabilities. RRC Polytech applies a Level AA conformance to the WCAG 2.1 standards for all of its web content and applications.

Desktop applications

The WCAG2ICT website provides detailed guidance for applying WCAG 2.1 standards to non‑web content and software. RRC Polytech applies a Level AA conformance to the WCAG2ICT standards, which are modifications of the WCAG 2.1 standards, for all of its non‑web software.

The majority of the WCAG 2.1 standards apply directly to non‑web content and software, with only minor changes required to some of the criteria. The WCAG2ICT website clearly defines these changes.

Although the WCAG2ICT standards encompass a wide range of guidelines for making non‑web software accessible to a broad range of people with diverse disabilities, authors and developers may be required to identify additional resources to achieve the prescribed standards.

For all software used at RRC Polytech and for responding to RFPs

The Accessibility for Manitobans Act identifies an Accessibility Standard for Employment that is designed to remove barriers for persons with disabilities, which includes their use of software systems. RRC Polytech requires a Level AA conformance to the WCAG 2.1 standards for web content and applications and WCAG2ICT standards for non‑web content and software.

Vendors are required to identify whether their product conforms to these guidelines. If the product is not 100 percent compliant, vendors must identify progress towards bringing the product into compliance.
