WINNIPEG, MB – Red River College (RRC) is proud to congratulate ironworking instructor Barry Chetyrbok, on receiving the Instructor of the Year Award last week at the 2014 Apprenticeship Manitoba Awards of Distinction.

Having spent more than a decade as an instructor at Red River College, with an extensive background in ironworking, Barry Chetyrbok has created an engaging and challenging applied learning environment to ensure students have the right skills and experience to prepare them for their career.

“We’re proud to once again have a Red River College instructor recognized for their dedication to their trade and our students,” said David Rew, Interim President & CEO, Red River College. “This recognition speaks to the quality of education, expertise, and passion of our instructors at the College. Red River College continues to enable students to build a career and contribute to Manitoba’s economy, and Barry is one example of how skilled our instructors are.”

Outside of the classroom Chetyrbok coached and mentored his students to compete in national and international apprenticeship competitions, enabling them to place first and second at the Western Canada Skills Competition, which allowed them to compete at the international level.

“Barry is an excellent, dedicated, and passionate instructor and very deserving of this award,” said Neil Cooke, Chair, Transportation and Heavy Apprenticeship Trades, RRC. “His dedication to his students, both in and out of the classroom is validated through student success. We are very fortunate to have someone with his skills and expertise instructing at Red River College.”

Held annually by Apprenticeship Manitoba and the Apprenticeship and Certification Board, the awards celebrate those who’ve shared their time and talent in training apprentices, thus contributing to the development of certified journeypersons with a special passion and pride for their trade.

Red River College has nine campuses and annual enrolments of more than 30,000 in full-and part-time degree, diploma and certificate programs. Through award-winning instruction and training on state-of-the-art equipment, RRC prepares its students to become leaders in their fields, while partnering with industry to conduct research and ensure curriculum remains up-to-date.
