Red River College Congratulates Neil Cooke on receiving Top Honours from the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA)

WINNIPEG, MB –Red River College’s (RRC) Chair of Transportation and Heavy Apprenticeship Trades, Neil Cooke received 2014’s Associate of the Year Award from the Manitoba Trucking Association.

“This recognition is a testament to the leadership and dedication Neil brings to the College and the strong relationships he has developed with the trucking industry,” said David Rew, President and CEO, RRC. “Neil is not only a leader at the College but a leader in our community and vital to ensuring both staff and student success. On behalf of the College, I congratulate Neil on receiving this honour recognizing the many positive contributions he has made.”

Cooke has over 40 years of industry experience working in Manitoba’s transportation sector where he worked extensively in the heavy truck industry as a technician, mechanic, consultant, and 13 years as an instructor at Red River College.

In his role as Chair, which he has held for eight years, Cooke oversees a team of 60 people that provide essential industry training and applied research for the transportation industry. Cooke and his team have contributed towards research on electric vehicle technology, bio diesel, and producing hydrogen for RRC’s hydrogen-hybrid vehicles.

In early 2014, Cooke was appointed by the federal government to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), a major distinction with only 12 council members serving from across Canada.

“Neil has been pivotal in working with industry and helping further many of our applied research initiatives here at the College, said Don MacDonald, Chair, School of Transportation, Aviation, and Manufacturing, RRC. “I wish to congratulate Neil on his tireless efforts to help students and staff succeed. He’s a valued and dedicated member of this team and most deserving of this honour from the MTA.”

Annually the Payne Transportation LP/ MTA Associated Trade Award is presented by the Manitoba Trucking Association to one member who has made a positive contribution to the program or have contributed to the development of the Association.
