Power System Repair – Exchange District Campus, Roblin Centre

September 6, 2024

The Facility Management team is working quickly to address a system issue that is affecting backup power that operates emergency lighting in the classrooms, corridors and stairwells of the Adelaide Building at the Roblin Centre. This issue is isolated to the Adelaide Building; all other emergency lighting at the Roblin Centre has not been affected.

There is no impact to regular day-to-day operations at the Roblin Centre. The campus is safe, and our alarm systems are not affected by this issue.

However, in the event there is a power outage, emergency lighting and the lighting on the bridge to Manitou a bi Bii daziigae will not operate.

A temporary solution is being installed today that will improve emergency lighting in the Adelaide Building in the event of a power outage.

In the event of a power outage, all staff and students in the Adelaide Building must follow these evacuation protocols:

  • Only use stairwells in the Adelaide Building when the emergency lighting is engaged. If lighting is not activated, proceed to the nearest exit.
  • Calmly and in an orderly fashion, travel to either the second or ground floor, and exit via the Atrium in the Roblin Centre.
  • Security will be on-site waiting to provide you with further directions

If you have any questions or need further information about how to properly evacuate the Adelaide Building during a power outage please contact Safety, Security and Health Services at safety@rrc.ca or visit the Security Team in the Atrium at the Roblin Centre.

Once a permanent repair is in place we provide an update through staff and student news.

Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve this issue.
