Red River College named Canada’s Best Diversity Employer

Red River College is proud to be named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for 2016. This prestigious recognition highlights employers that stand out through their efforts to create diverse, inclusive workplaces.

This is the second time Red River College has been recognized with this distinction, having been recognized last year for the first time. Red River College is the only post-secondary institution in Manitoba, to-date that has received this designation.

“At Red River College we strive to ensure equity and diversity are embedded in College practices and demonstrated throughout the institution,” said Paul Vogt, President & CEO, Red River College. “Equity and inclusion form part of our blueprint and enable Red River to create a welcoming and open environment. I know I speak for the entire College community when I say how honored we are to be recognized with this distinction for the second year in a row.”

As part of Red River College’s submission many areas were highlighted as initiatives that support an inclusive and open environment, they include the College’s LGBTT* Initiative, our Leadership Development Program includes Managing Mental Health in the Workplace training; our College wide Mental Health Strategy; the development of a mentorship program for Visible Minorities; and our overall Workplace Equity and Diversity Strategy which includes an employment systems review.

Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for 2016 was announced today with 65 organizations leading the nation in creating inclusive workplace cultures.

Red River College has nine campuses and annual enrolments of more than 30,000 in full-and part-time degree, diploma and certificate programs. Through award-winning instruction and training on state-of-the-art equipment, RRC prepares its students to become leaders in their fields, while partnering with industry to conduct research and ensure curriculum remains up-to-date.

RRC Polytech campuses are located on the lands of Anishinaabe, Ininiwak, Anishininew, Dakota, and Dené, and the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.

We recognize and honour Treaty 3 Territory Shoal Lake 40 First Nation, the source of Winnipeg’s clean drinking water. In addition, we acknowledge Treaty Territories which provide us with access to electricity we use in both our personal and professional lives.
