Rebels Announce New Additions to Coaching Staff
Red River College is pleased to announce the hiring of Erik Hansen (left) and Dylan Power as Co-Head Coaches of the Rebels Men’s Volleyball team.
“As alumni of the volleyball program, Dylan and Erik bring a passion not only to the sport of volleyball but to the Rebels program,” says Shane Ray, manager of athletics and recreation services for RRC. “We are excited about the next step in the Rebels Volleyball program and the direction it will take under Erik and Dylan’s leadership.”
Power holds his Level 1 NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) and is no stranger to Rebels athletics. Having completed four seasons with the Rebels, he has captured three league titles, and been named the Championship Final Four MVP. He also holds a national gold and silver medal with the Manitoba provincial team and Bison Club volleyball team, respectively. Dylan is currently finishing his fifth year of university, studying Business Technology Teacher Education at RRC and the University of Winnipeg (joint program).
“I will bring the leadership and experience gained as a player to the bench this year, and will continue to add to the tradition of excellence that RRC athletics has established,” said Power.
Hansen added, “I look forward to taking the next step in my volleyball career and with the Rebels program. I am excited to be able to give back to a great program that has given me so many great memories and experiences. Dylan and I want to create a competitive team that will build on the past success of the program.”
During Hansen’s time at RRC, he played and won four championships over five years. Hansen also played at the University of Winnipeg for a year and is a graduate of Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School, where he played under Jim Schreyer. Hansen is a recent graduate of RRC’s Civil Engineering Technology program, and is currently finishing a second diploma in Construction Management while working for the City Of Winnipeg.
The Red River Rebels are the varsity sport teams of Red River College, and compete in the Manitoba College Athletic Conference (MCAC). The College fields teams in basketball (men and women), futsal (men and women), soccer (men and women) and volleyball (men and women). This year the men’s volleyball program will be looking to repeat as MCAC Champions.
