Throughout my life, I have always been eager to create positive environmental change and have searched out opportunities to become involved in causes related to sustainability. My journey has included stops that have shaped my knowledge of sustainability, as well as my approach to accomplishing my goals. Along the way, I met amazing people who influenced my views and helped me navigate the world of environmentalism.

I had a memorable experience working for the City of Winnipeg’s Civic Environmental Committee, then decided that my next destination would be the environmental non-governmental sector. Organizations such as Trees Winnipeg, Save Our Seine River Environment Inc., and Manitoba Eco-Network helped me understand environmentalism from a not-for-profit perspective. The path has been winding, but has always remained consistently based on my belief that we are all interconnected and interdependent with nature, and therefore we should work collectively on living sustainably.

I simply could not imagine living a life that didn’t revolve around being a strong environmental voice – this is my niche. And thus, my journey has lead me to Red River College, serving as Manager of Sustainability.

I feel honoured to work for a college that states sustainability as one of its strategic priorities. The organizational culture of sustainability at Red River College has resulted in the prestigious achievement of being selected as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. I am thrilled to be part of the team, playing a key role in supporting the sustainability goals and actions of the College.

As Manager of Sustainability, I will act as a resource, researcher and advocate to help the College build institutional capacity with respect to sustainability. Over the next year, my focus will be on the development and implementation of strategic efforts to enhance, and continually evolve, Red River College’s sustainability performance.

I look forward to meeting with the staff and students at Red River College to explore new opportunities to become involved in, and knowledgeable about, sustainability.
