Schroeder Institute of Entertainment and Media Arts

Generations of creative thinkers like you have explored ideas and sharpened their skills at RRC Polytech. The wisdom and experiences we’ve gained over decades of teaching creative arts inspired the Schroeder Institute of Entertainment and Media Arts (the Schroeder Institute): your bridge from the classroom to the workforce.

Discover our prairie hub for creative arts education and research, and how it can help you push the limits of your skills, gather experiences, and build the network you need to create your career – right here in Manitoba.

Under the expert guidance and mentorship of our faculty, you will turn concepts into campaigns, bring storyboards and sketches to life and test your skills in the workplace throughout your program. You will also work hand-in-hand with industry and community partners on new frontiers of creative arts through collaborative research projects. Entering the workplace, you will quickly earn your spot alongside our accomplished alumni – like Doug Darling and Pablo Hidalgo – and help shape the creative landscape in Manitoba, and beyond.

As a Schroeder Institute student, you can embark on a new creative journey or further skills you’ve already gained from foundational experiences such as Sisler High School’s CREATE program.

As a Schroeder Institute grad, your impact on the industry you call home will be limitless, and the mark you will make on Manitoba and beyond, lasting.

Bridging the Gap Between Classroom and Industry

The Schroeder Institute is RRC Polytech’s response, and contribution, to the strong growth happening in Manitoba’s creative arts sector – a thriving economic engine contributing $1.6 billion to the province’s GDP and comprising more than 3,400 businesses and approximately 20,000 workers. This growing industry needs an increase in local talent to sustain it and fuel its continued trajectory to becoming a major creative arts hub in North America. With RRC Polytech, you can be a part of it.

Working with industry leaders, we identified three areas of need and opportunity in Manitoba’s creative arts sector the Schroeder Institute can support:

  • A pipeline of newly skilled employees and a flexible way to upskill existing workforces (through micro-credentials), which the Schroeder Institute addresses through new and existing programming.
  • Deeper collaboration with industry, to be facilitated through the Schroeder Institute’s Entertainment Arts Studio
  • Applied research focused on AI in media creation, exploring how to best utilize immersive technologies like virtual or augmented reality in productions, and how to reduce the carbon footprint of productions. The Schroeder Institute leverages the 20 years of applied research expertise of our Research Partnerships and Innovation group, and will model its student-industry research activities off the College’s highly successful ACE Project Space.
