Annotate Learner Submissions

Annotate Learner Submissions

Instructors can now use the built-in annotation toolbar in Assignments to provide contextual feedback with highlighting, free hand drawing, shapes, and associated commenting. This allows instructors to complete all their evaluation and feedback work directly in Assignments, without the need to use any external tools or applications. Annotations remain editable until the feedback is published by the instructor. If instructors want to add additional feedback after publishing, they can update the annotations and re-publish them.

In this video you can learn more about the new built-in annotation toolbar:

How to start using the built-in annotation toolbar:

  1. On the navbar, click Assignments and Choose Dropbox.
  2.  Find the Assignment folder that you need to evaluate and click on it.
  3. Moving down the page, you are able to see exactly what and when a student submitted their assignment.  You can see their comments, and if you have evaluated it yet or not.  In the example below the assignment hasn’t been evaluated yet.
  4.  After you click on student’s assignment, you can see under ‘Submission List Panel’ the new built-in annotation toolbar (1) and student’s uploaded assignment (2).
  5. You can annotate now and provide contextual feedback with highlighting (1), free hand drawing, shapes, and associated commenting (2). If you need to delete any of your feedbacks, simple mark it and click on the garbage bin (3).
  6. After evaluating, don’t forget to save as a draft or publish.

How will students see your feedback?

  1.  After you publish your feedback for the assignment, students will be able to see and click on “View Inline Feedback”.
  2. Students will see the grade for their assignment, message that you might leave under “Feedback”, and your contextual feedback with highlighting (1), free hand drawing, shapes, and associated commenting (2).
