Levels and Criteria – Part 2

You are now ready to start entering values into your rubric.  You should see what is essentially an empty rubric. Generally, it’s recommend to write your rubric outside of LEARN first so that it becomes a simple data entry project.

You may have to make some decisions when building or copying from a rubric.  Often people set up ranges (below average 0-2, average 3-5, etc.), but the rubric tool will not support ranges. You can simply make extra levels to support the full range, or you can select the average value you will give when someone falls into that range.  When grading you do have the ability to override the grade value so you are able to apply a range value on the level through that process.

1. You can begin writing or pasting your Criterion name (A), Level name (B), and descriptions (C). You will notice you have access to a simplified version of the HTML text editor which allows you to add images etc. You are also able to pre-populate the rubric with common feedback you will want to pass to students who achieve a specific level. This can be overwritten at the time of evaluation. (D)
   
2. Your rubric will auto save as you go. When complete click “Close”
3. Your rubric will most likely be set as ‘Published’. You can adjust this by accessing the dropdown beside its name and clicking “Set Status”

Your rubric is now ready to be attached to items such as Dropbox, Gradebook, competencies and Discussion Forums.
