Occupational Testing: Paramedic Fitness Assessment

The Paramedic Fitness Assessment is designed to ensure that prospective paramedics are physically capable of performing job tasks effectively while minimizing risk to their own and others’ health and safety. 

This assessment is available to students in the RRC Polytech Paramedicine program and is administered by a CSEP certified Kinesiologist, ensuring safety, quality, and reliability. 

Preparing for Your Assessment

To ensure an effective assessment, please follow these instructions: 

  • A consent and PAR-Q form must be signed prior to beginning the assessment
  • Wear clothes appropriate for exercise (ex. shorts, t-shirt, running shoes)
  • Avoid consuming alcoholic beverages the day before and day of your test
  • Avoid consuming nicotine or caffeine for at least two hours before your assessment
  • Avoid engaging in strenuous exercise within six hours of your appointment

Test Components

The assessment consists of two parts:

  1. General Fitness Assessment: Evaluates key fitness components through standardized testing, using Canadian norms and percentiles.
  2. Job-Related Assessment: Simulates real-world paramedic tasks such as carrying equipment, performing CPR, and transferring a patient. Graded on a pass/fail basis.

    Cost

    $129 + GST. Payments can be made at the Notre Dame Campus Student Service Centre.
